A summary of time, not a judgement
Time in range describes the proportion of a selected period spent within a glucose target range. It is often shown alongside time below and above range. The target and the amount of time to aim for should be agreed with your healthcare professional; there is no single goal appropriate for everyone.
Schematic only. Segment widths do not represent a recommended target or a patient’s data.
How it differs from an average
An average can hide different daily patterns. Time-in-range information adds detail about where readings sit relative to the selected limits. It complements A1C rather than replacing it. Useful review considers both the overall picture and any periods below range.
Daily and weekly summaries can support a conversation about patterns. The right review routine and targets depend on the person, their treatment and their circumstances.
Questions for a review
- Which range and goals have we agreed for me?
- What period should I use for the report?
- Is there enough information to make this a useful comparison?
- Which part of the report should we look at first?
- What change, if any, have we agreed to review at the next visit?
